More than 70 Jehovah's Witness sexual abuse victims speak up after Belgian documentary
by Tenacious inmore than 70 victims of sexual abuse within the jehovah's witnesses have come forward with their stories since the public network aired a documentory about it last week, reports the nonprofit organisation reclaimed voices belgium.. the documentary brought to light that the organisation had been covering up sexual abuse of minors via an internal 'disciplinary' system for years, concluded pano.
that way, none of the claims were reported to the police.
one of the witnesses in the documentary was very straightforward in calling it "a paradise for paedophiles".according to ciaosn, an independent centre set up by belgium's department of justice to study sectarian organisations, there are similar findings in 12 other countries.

Brothers Saying PIMO Things In Talks
by APieceOfShitNamedTate ini've been paying very close attention to talks ever since waking up.
i probably pay more attention now than i ever did while i was sleeping.
anyway, i think there are a lot of brothers who are awake, and they try their best to go against the grain while up on that stage.

99.99% of JW women are not inferior to men.
Oops. That should read:
99.99% of JW believe women are not inferior to men.

These brothers are probably not pimo at all. They are just very good at compartmentalizing different (contradictory) beliefs, and/or their statements are true but need to be seem in context.
1) 99.99% of JW women are not inferior to men. 'Weaker vessel' means 'more precious, like expensive porcelain', not 'breaks easier and is thus worth less' in JW speak. To JW this view is 100% compatible with the belief that only men should lead, are head of their wife, and women must be in submission. The statement made in the talk doesn't deviate from JW doctrine.
2) Same. They have to see everyone as a potential JW so they will try to recruit them. Believing some people are just bad would make them not preach to that person. At the same time 'the world' is seen as bad, and again these ideas are wholly compatible with each other in JW land.
3) Again: individual JW should not be judging. They shouldn't judge elders or other overlords. Don't judge. Elders shouldn't make rules that Watchtower hasn't cooked up themselves because that would be pharasaic. However elders judging people, and Watchtower coming up with all kinds of strange rules is A-OK because somehow the 'don't judge' thing doesn't apply to them.
One doesn't need to be pimo to have some decent ideas in a talk. Half of what JW believe is good and uplifting and positive. The other half sucks though.

International convention Utrecht this weekend
by Gorbatchov infriends,.
in an earlier posting gorby wrote about attending the international convention in utrecht this weekend, to keep the family happy and make some observations.. guests were gb member jackson and his assistent van der zande, a dutch helper of the gb.. 42.000+ attenders and +/- 250 baptisers.. the convention theme about "love" was not bad at all, from a christian viewpoint.. jackson and van der zande made a good presentation with humor.. the colorfull witness from arround the word were nice and nice to see.. typical witness doctrine about 1914, king of the north, being obient when your kingdom hall will be sold etcetera were hard to listen to.. but the love theme was not bad, and sometimes oké.. i see a transformation to an evangelical kind of tv church.. ifthe typical jw doctrine about years, endtime, education, blood and armageddon would be downplayed, gorby could see some positive side of jw-ism.. mainpoint is that jw try to show love but on a forced base, because they are told to do so.. but, not a bad convention, and a good, humble part of jackson and van der zande, did not expect this.. i write some positive because it is, what it is.. see your opinion.. gorby.

@Gorby,
I'm happy you survived and focused on the positive. Also good for you to speak that part here.
It's my opinion that about half of what JW say, believe and do is uplifting, positive, inspiring, and generally good.
The other half of what they say, believe, and do however......

Strangest JW you ever knew stories
by rickroll inwe all know/knew people in the kh that were about nuts.
tell us your strangest stories.
i will start.

An anointed elderly sister in our neighboring congregation was just nuts in general, later partly because of old age.
She complained to elders that some JW who visited her had stolen her soup.
She went to a bank office to withdraw some money, then went ballistic when her balance wasn't what she thought it would be. She stood there in a crowded bank cussing and swearing and invoking Jehovah's name and Armageddon and her being anointed and whatnot. A total clusterfuck. The sister who accompanied her to help her out a bit died a thousand deaths, and may or may not have walked out on her.She also once told a man in a wheelchair that God promised him he would be able to walk and run again in Paradise. The man wasn't interested. She walked away, but not before telling him (hard to translate the exact condescension and evil wit): "Then just keep sitting there!"
When she really went off the rails due to old age she was housed in a home for the elderly, where she happily told other (non-JW) residents they'd be DFed for celebrating their birthday or smoking.
Another one is more like asshole-type person and less of a crazy person story.
One day a family of 3 walked into our hall. Man, pregnant woman, young child. They were refugees from the Balkan war, housed in the refugee camp ('center for asylum seekers') in our town. They asked the elders about hospital arrangements in connection to no-blood insanity and giving birth. So several people in the congregation visited the family in the refugee center a few times. The women was really kind and sweet but the man was a bit odd for a JW. Sometimes he was gone for a week or two, leaving his pregnant wife and young daughter alone in the crowded refugee center.
Then some day - when his wife was almost due - her asked my mother if he could take his wife and daughter in for a week or two. He really had to go back to Bosnia to renew his drivers license. My mother told him no, but we'll be taking care of your family in the refugee center. So my mother, my sister and I took care of them. My sister even spent a few nights in the refugee center.
It was an odd situation. After all, who travels 1500km to go back to a war zone to renew a drivers license?
Then we heard from people well-versed in Balkan culture that (apparently) men can't just leave their wife....unless they nake sure she's taken care of by someone. Like....my mother if she had taken the sister in our home..?
Anyway not much later the man traveled to the Balkan again, and when he came back he was arrested with a car full of booze and cigarettes. He had been a smuggler all that time. Such a nice brotherhood :-\

Looking for a quote by Francis Crick
by Doug Mason inpage 21 of the watchtower’s 2010 brochure, “the origin of life” says of the biologist.
“francis crick … decided that dna is far too organized to have come about through undirected events”.. i cannot find this quotation being made in writing by crick himself.. the wts’s brochure refers to the book, “the search for extraterrestrial intelligence – a philosophical inquiry”, by david lamb but it is not clear to me that the brochure is saying this view by crick is being cited in lamb's book.. where will i be able to read this statement being made by francis crick?.
and while we are looking at that wts brochure, page 16 makes some interesting claims about teaspoons.

Doug,
No, that is not the entire article. It's merely an abstract.
What I normally do is use sci-hub.tw to read scientific papers and articles. You need to copy the entire DOI number as shown on top of the page you linked to.
DOI:10.1096/fasebj.7.1.7678564 in this case.
A DOI number is a unique identifier for scientific publications.
Paste the number in the search box on sci-hub.tw and the paper will be downloaded.
This works for almost all publications that have a DOI or Pubmed ID.
FYI legally this is a bit of a grey area. Sci-hub use credentials freely provided by persons with access to scientific library sites to login to those sites and download the paper for you. The library sites of course don't like this, but they have no copyright to the papers they're hosting. Those papers were originally published for free by scientists. Now I don't care about that too much and I use sci-hub often. Knowledge should be free ;-)

Doug,
Download this file: http://www.guilliard.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Discussion-The-Origins-of-Life-Misquotes.pdf
It's a commentary of the JW brochure. Search it for Crick and you'll find additional info on the quote.

It appears the authors of the brochure didn't understand a single thing in Lamb's paper, or they simply messed up the reference to the source.
Lamb refers to some of Crick's own writings, perhaps the quotes can be found there?
